In 1823, a young man named William Webb Ellis had the brilliant idea, during a game of "football", to take the ball in his hands on a field at the college in the town of Rugby, England, thus "inventing" a sport. It's a fantastic adventure that we recount here, from the first improvised matches in English colleges to the incredible World Cup, from the first final of the French championship in 1892 to the spectacular Top 14, from the first British encounters to the major modern competitions, from the first champions of the 20th century to today's global stars.
