Description

Released in 2013, Divine is the first solo album by Ezéchiel Pailhès, an artist known for his work with the electro-jazz duo Nôze.
A poetic and genre-defying album that blends neo-classical electro with experimental sounds… Free as air, therefore.
For a long time, before the success of Nôze brought him to the world's attention, Ezechiel Pailhès remained a prophet in his own land.
Trained at the jazz conservatory in Marseille, this exceptional pianist has always steered clear of genres to better understand his creative processes. He worked for a long time on creating what would become his first solo album, waiting for the right moment when he could no longer contain all the melodies that fill this epic of 14 tracks.

A journey into a free world where creation knows no formal constraints, where everything changes according to the moment's determined inspiration. Transforming original pieces without knowing in advance how they will end, disguising instruments to be confused with others, nothing frightens this intrepid sailor whose ship is, however, safely docked at home, as Ezechiel composes and plays in Paris.
As the sole master on board, the tinkering illusionist prepares his piano with mechanical tools (tape, rubber, percussion, drifting wooden claves on the strings), producing instruments that don’t sound where we expect them to.
This adventure is, he says, a fiction he wants to believe in. The result is equal to the creator and his character.
14 captivating melodies like siren songs, sometimes dressed in a simple lala or lyrics from David Lafore, 14 stopovers offering a sweetness that is sometimes extremely melancholic, 14 pieces whose relentless refrains take root from the very first listen. It is indeed a divine crossover of broad references to Serge Regianni, D Angelo, Bernard Hermann, Timber Timbre, Stevie Wonder, but also Moondog, Keith Jarrett, or Tony Bennett… A succession of landscapes and cinematic images.

A journey that makes one want to dance, dream, and simply listen to the way of looking at the horizon while sitting on the deck of a sailing boat (notably on “Quiétude”, inspired by a sonnet from William Shakespeare), but also the cheerfulness of drunken sailors, their lightness, the festive nature of the ports where things sway, and the emotion of the infinite contemplated, the heart stirred by the swell.
Divine is the companion for all journeys, the album you never tire of that takes you elsewhere, but always towards the unknown…

THE ANECDOTE
A jack-of-all-trades in every sense, Ezechiel Pailhès is also a composer for cinema and advertising. He co-wrote, along with David Lafore, the soundtrack for Bancs Publics, a film by Bruno Podalydès released in 2009.
