In a time where everything has to go faster, higher, further, listening to a track like "Slow Down" by the Californians Poolside feels cathartic, even therapeutic. Accompanied by its light and sunny video filmed by the poolside, we notice that it was ten years ago, but the track hasn’t aged a bit - quite the opposite - in a hysterical era that struggles to let go!

In fact, they said it themselves back then, their philosophy could be summed up in a few words: drink mezcal and wine, surround yourself with friends, eat good food, and dance! It’s hard not to resist such hedonism, especially when it comes to their music!

When we look at their biography in detail, the original duo met in 2004 at a party in San Francisco, made up originally of the Danish Filip Nikolic and the American Jeffrey Paradise. The following year, the two men who share a strong artistic bond went to the studio to have fun and start creating, but without making anything too serious, each being very busy with their respective projects: the first is now the bassist for the band Iam Robot after being part of Junior Senior and the second a DJ at the best parties in San Francisco and a member of the group The Calculators.

We had to wait until late 2010 for the Poolside project to finally see the light of day with the release of their first maxi Do You Believe, followed a few months later by their cover of "Harvest Moon" by Neil Young. Poolside made it into the playlists of DJ sets by Dimitri from Paris, Todd Terje, and James Murphy (from LCD Soundsystem)!
After the release of these two maxis, the band finally decided to release their first LP, Pacific Standard Time, while creating their own label, Poolside Music, at the start of summer 2012.

While they themselves describe their music as daytime disco, it clearly offers more subtle atmospheres! Indeed, some tracks navigate between downtempo and blue-eyed soul, sometimes with a hint of melancholy in the harmonies, as heard in "Next To You" at the start of the album, but also in the two previously mentioned singles: "Slow Down" and "Harvest Moon." The duo even dared to compose a lovely pop ballad with the sound of waves in the background, titled "Can't Get You Off My Mind." You just have to let it rock you! Poolside also knows how to play fully into effective electro-funky vibes, like on "Take Me There," "Just Fall In Love," or "Do You Believe," a potential hit which was, by the way, their first single directly from this LP. And even if the BPMs are never thunderous, they remain effective enough that you instinctively want to sway along.

This is what we appreciate about Poolside, this ease of composition that gives us both the impression of being on familiar ground, but also a certain subtlety worked into each track that requires several deep listens to grasp all of its richness.
Moreover, this first album will not go unnoticed and will allow them to participate in the biggest American festivals, including the iconic Coachella in 2014, and to continue the adventure with a second album, Heat, in 2017. Filip Nikolic left the adventure that same year, leaving Jeffrey Paradise at the helm.

So don’t wait any longer and dive into the auditory leap of Pacific Standard Time!
