Firmly believing in the power of a smile, Gustav Ehrenreich created the cheerful Hoptimist movement in the late 1960s. The goal was to design a figurine that would constantly remind people of the importance of staying positive and optimistic. Because, although the 1960s are often referred to as "the happy 60s," this decade was marked by disturbing events.
